MOMOSE is a jazz vocalist, song stylist, and singer-songwriter whose career spans Japan and the United States. Beginning her professional career in the 1990s as a songwriter and vocalist, she worked extensively in recording, backing vocals, and songwriting for a variety of artists. In 1997, she released her debut album, Hana ni Naritai Saibou (Cells That Want to Become Flowers), through Victor Entertainment’s CELL label. In 2003, she moved to New York, where she immersed herself in jazz studies, vocal training, and live performance. During this period, she further developed her distinctive style, blending storytelling, jazz expression, and original songwriting. In 2006, she released THE CABARET, produced by Grammy Award-winning keyboardist James Alan Smith. In 2011, she released I’m Japanese Mother, a U.S. release inspired by her experiences as a Japanese mother living abroad. After returning to Japan and raising her family, MOMOSE resumed her artistic activities under the name MOMOSEJAZZ. She continues to perform at jazz festivals and concert venues throughout Japan, including an ongoing annual performance engagement with the Minato Mirai Jazz Street Festival. Her work explores themes of breath, memory, and the passage of life. Through music, she creates intimate and heartfelt experiences that connect people across generations and cultures.
